Surgical Procedures

SEPTOPLASTY:
Septoplasty is a surgery performed to straighten the cartilage and bone inside the nose in an effort to resolve nasal obstruction present either congenitally or from trauma. An incision is made inside the nostril to access the airway and improve the function of the nose. This is an outpatient procedure and nasal packing is typically in place for 1 day following the surgery.

TURBINATE REDUCTION:
Submucous resection of the inferior turbinates is performed for chronic nasal congestion refractory to topical nasal steroids and antihistamines. A small internal incision is made in the lateral aspect of the nasal airway and radiofrequency is used to relieve nasal obstruction.

LATERA® NASAL IMPLANT:
Nasal obstruction is a condition in which the nasal passages are blocked and prevent a normal or comfortable amount of air from passing through the nose. The Latera® Absorbable Nasal Implant is used to support the upper and lower cartilage in the nose. It is placed inside the lateral (side) wall to support the cartilage, reducing nasal airway obstruction symptoms to help the patient breathe better.

CLARIFIX NASAL CRYOTHERAPY:
Chronic rhinitis is a condition when out-of-balance nerves may be sending too many signals to your nose, telling it to drip, run and swell more than necessary. Using cold treatment called “cryotherapy”, the ClariFix device reduces your runny, stuffy nose by interrupting the signals that out-of-balance nerves may be sending. This is an office procedure performed under local anesthesia with most patients typically returning to normal activity within the same day.

EAR TUBES:
Ear Tubes are placed for resolution of recurrent and chronic ear infections. If a patient suffers from 4-6 ear infections a year or has middle ear fluid for over 3 months, he/she may be a candidate for ear tubes that improve ventilation of the middle ear and decrease the need for oral antibiotics to treat ear infections. This is typically performed under general anesthesia for children and topical anesthesia for adults.

TONSILLECTOMY & ADENOIDECTOMY:
Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy is a surgical procedure performed to resolve upper airway obstruction secondary to tonsil and adenoid hypertrophy and remove the source of chronic nose and throat infections. This is a typically outpatient procedure that requires general anesthesia.
